For anyone who've never heard about this. Dialpad.com is a website that let you magically make free calls to your friends in US. from your PC. Sounds incredible? but it's true.

How to make a phone call

Please remember that you can make the call to people in US. only. Anyway you can make it from any part of the world. You can talk as long as you want, as long as you can bear of the interference. All you may need are just a good microphone, and good internet connection (at least 56k). When you're ready just go to the site http://www.dialpad.com. Apply for a membership. You will get your personal ID. and password through your e-mail. After that you can log in and start using the service.

After login you will be at the address book page. At this page you can add your contact's phone no. There is another small window that contains telephone-alike interface beside. You can make phone call from this window. There are mainly 2 ways to make a phone call. Just create a new contact and select a no. in your contact from the address book or just directly type in the no. in the small phone page. Then dialpad will connect to the destination for you.


Troubles and Interference

I've got trouble using dialpad under less-than-56k modem. In Thailand I can make it up to 49.1k while I'm connecting with 56k modem. So I cannot get the full quality sound. Anyway another way to prevent interference is to choose the best ISP as possible. I and my friends have tried so many ISP together, so we don't have to buy too much internet package before we get the solution. You should not make call on your internet rush hours too because it will make your call jerks or disconnected since the bandwidth are utterly employed. The quality of voice is a little bit lower than normal phone call but it's acceptable and reasonable. You will need a good microphone cause as I tried I could heard my friends well but they couldn't hear me sometime. Changing the microphone helped me get rid of this problem.


Other things

You can also make a PC-to-PC phone call which will gives your a better quality. I love the interface of the site cause it's been designed to let user make call as easy as possible. Just few steps then you can talk to your friends for free. So you can talk to your friends any time you want. It sounds like a dream but it's really a very good dream. I love dialpad. 8-)
