Don't Do It!!!!!

Feb 14 '00

While shopping for a laptop, I read Fujitsu's ad about its lifebook series. I wish their product was as good as their ad company. I purchased their Lifebook 600 and as much memory as could be stored in it.
I used to be a legal secretary, typing at the speed of 80 wpm. The keyboard on this laptop is so badly designed that I can't do half that amount without error. The touchpad is a joke. There is no accurate sensitivity. Since this was my first laptop, I thought that all touchpads were this difficult..I found out that this wasn't true after using various other laptops owned by my friends. Unfortunately, I was the "first kid on the block" with one, so there was no experience to draw from. The next thing I noticed was that the batteries (you use two when you have the docking system on...the only way to have a CD and disc option on this machine) last less than an hour total. I thought this was normal until I spoke with my sister, who gets three hours out of one battery on her laptop. Then, I got a notice from an attorney that a class action suit had been filed against Fujitsu because of their battery life and that since Fujitsu either lost or settled, they were sending me a new, improved battery. No change...and now, it only half charges.

Plugged in, I thought I could use the laptop for whatever length of time I wanted. I wish. It gets hot. And when it gets hot, it starts to get sluggish and then, finally doesn't work at all.

Stupidly, Fujitsu has designed this laptop so that the modem is in the docking attachment. This means that you can't travel with the laptop without the heavy attachment if you might need to use a modem for any reason.

Oh...I forgot to tell you about the time it decided to commit suicide. I called Fujitsu support. The laptop was less than a year old. There wasn't anyone in support who had been there long enough to be familiar with how this machine runs to help me. After 8 months, not only did they consider the laptop obsolete, I guess they considered all the technicians who knew anything about it obsolete also. I wound up reformatting the hard drive out of self defense.

I will never, EVER purchase another Fujitsu computer. Maybe, as their ad states, you can drop it from heights, run over it, spill things on it and it will keep on working...but I think they just didn't notice. It was so bad to start with, it couldn't have gotten any worse no matter WHAT they did to it.
