poor quality control
Written: Jun 28 '00 (Updated Jun 28 '00)
Pros:flat screen, color, contrast
Cons:poor focus control, poor quality control
Hello All,
When I bought this monitor, I had high hopes. I highly respected the Sony name, but have read many posters on USENET complaining of poor focus and quality control. It turns out that my G400 had the same problems.
The contrast, brightness, and color vibrancy were excellent. The FD Trinitron tube is perfectly flat, and takes some getting use to. However, the overall effect was quite satisfying. Graphics quality while playing games was top notch. However, the quality of text varied greatly. The center of the screen was very sharp but the edges of the screen were noticeably blurry. On the Windows desktop, on the left hand side were the icons normally reside, the text was quite blurry. Running at 1280x1024, text sharpness was bearable at the edges. However, when running resolutions higher than 1280x1024, the limitations of this particular monitor became glaringly apparent. At 1600x1200, text becomes horribly unfocused.
Needless to say, I am going to send my G400 back. I think I will try to get another G400 and see if the focus was merely a bad monitor. SONY, I expect better from you.
