UPDATE: I would advise against using this or any other pay to surf site!! I am owed hundreds of dollars that I am sure I will never see. I have given up hope of ever getting a check. Stick with Epinions if you want to make money online. Disregard the rest of this Epinion.
Desktop Dollars was advertising a payout rate of .50 per hour of surfing time. What's more, you can be paid for an unlimited number of hours per month (actually there is a limit of 744, the maximum hrs in a 31 day month). Actual payout has not been .50/hr but more like .20-.30 per hr. This should increase as revenue increases and hopefully they'll hit that .50/hr goal they are shooting for.
The DD adbar is roughly the same size as the AllAdvantage bar. The major difference is that multiple users can use the same bar on the same computer without changing the registry. This is very convenient and perhaps the most appealing aspect of the adbar. I have had no problems with crashes or downtime like I've experienced with other pay-to-surf sites.
DD is similar to the other more popular sites in that they allow you to create a downline of referrals. Obviously, the only way to make any real money is to have a huge downline of active surfers who use the bar. There are several websites available to help you increase your referrals. (check out the sites on my home page for 2 of these). There are also some good Epinions written on how to maximize your profits.
DD offers a unique way to receive your money. It is called the Clix Card and is similar to an ATM card. If you use the card there is no fee so you receive all of your money instead of getting nailed with a $7 (yep that's right $7) processing fee for requesting a check. You will also get your money much more quickly by using the Clix Card.
So far Desktop Dollars has proven to be a winner. I'll update this as soon as I receive a check.
