P.C. Horrors (sexy and erotic?)

The Bottom Line Be careful who you buy from. Trust only reputable dealers.

Just thought the title should be "eye-catching"
according to the pointers I've read here at
epinions.....sorry, no panties, lingerie,
nudity or sexual content here.

In reality, this is my story of a home-computer
purchase gone bad.

In March, 1999 I made a decision to buy my first
desktop computer from the VideoComputerStore (they
are still doing their infomercials on T.V.). It was an
Inteva, Pentium III, probably one of the first "III's"
to be released.

The package offered sounded wonderful and I ordered
it and paid with a credit card.

The delivery of my CPU, monitor, scanner, printer and
software bundle (much of which was outdated, useless
and worthless) was delivered piecemeal over a three
week period - talk about being anxious !
When all the components were finally gathered it was
time to set it all up. NO INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!
Now, we all know it's not terribly hard for most people
to hook these things up correctly, However, I happen to be
electronically challenged. After trying to reach the
"support staff" for some guidance, I decided to try to
overcome my mental liabilities and just "do it".

Finally got it done (with a little help from my friends)
and in just a matter of two months, my "puter" died.
Now the real fun began. Call VCS, on hold for
hours, eventually, get a live person only to be
told "you have to call the holder of the warranty" which
was Philips-Magnavox. After another few hours, I finally
convinced them that the beast was actually dead.
They sent a mailer and I sent the monster back.

Three weeks later, it was returned with an invoice
marked "after extensive diagnostic testing, we cannot find
anything wrong with this unit". Oh well, I must be the
idiot here, can't do anything right.

O.K. - so I fire it up again and nothing works. Back to
phones. Another mailer, another return.
This time I got it back in two weeks with the advice that
they replaced the motherboard. Guess what? Now it's working.

Here is the shocking ending to my tale of woe.
My apartment complex was recently hit with a major
lightening strike and my beloved Inteva was fried !!!

Thank the lord for insurance because that enabled me to
replace my "lemon-flavored" Inteva with a brand new
Dell Dimension 4100.

I bought it, had it delivered (all in one shot !) and
even got instructions - amazing.

The moral of the story is to rely only on reputable dealers,
know who is responsible for your warranty and make sure
the tech support is FIRST CLASS.

I learned my lesson the hard way, if this can help one
person avoid the headaches I caused myself, I'll be happy !!
