DSL is all That!

Now that my DSL service is in and finally functioning properly, I love it! At night, either my wife or myself are on-line downloading email, or surfing the net, and our one phone line would always be tied up. Since we have voicemail we always had to call in to get our messages, which added to the monthly phone costs, because we only get 100 calls per month through Ameritech. Between dropped ISP calls, callbacks, regular calls, and voice mail, the phone bill was becoming a nightmare.

But with DSL our access to the Internet is “always on”, which means no more missed phone calls, no more slow downloads, no more interruption downloads, 24/7 access to email, and instant access to anything on the net. And since DSL shares our phone line, we can still make and receive call via the phone and even fax if need be.

Our DSL connection is 420kbs down and 210kbs up, and the difference between DSL and 56kbs modem is readily apparent with the first download. I average 41kbs on downloads now, compared to 3.71kbs with 56kbs modem. My best friend has a Cable modem whose bandwidth he has to share with every one else in the neighborhood and he averages somewhere in the vicinity of 25kbs on downloads.

Because we now have an assigned IP address 24/7, my wife who still uses AOL, has now switched to the Bring Your Own IPS version of the service which is only $9.95 a month. Of course all of this leaves us in a quandary when I am on the road or we go on vacation because we cannot take our DSL with us. So it looks as though I will have to sign up for one of those free ISP services that are popping up all over the place. I will let you know how it goes!

Now that I have DSL, I am hooked. If you can afford it, and it is available in your area, get DSL, you will glad you did. But shop around for the most reliable company. After reading some of the other opinion on DSL ISP’s I can see that I am not alone in my experience with Flashcom. So do some homework before you decide on a service.
