I say the monster because this monster has invaded my life.
I will start with my first symptom,(I can only guess the times and dates because MS eats away your memory, at least mine)I was about 23 years old when I had a numbness on the right side of my face.
At this time I also felt numbness on various parts of my body.So I went to my Doctor and told her and she said so calmly " oh that sounds like Multiple Sclerosis" I had no idea what that was nor did I even ask. That goes to show how young I was.
Well when I told my mom about it she cried " not meaning to upset me, that was her reaction" So I knew I was serious.Well the symptoms continued and my Doctor sent me to a neurologist. That is when I had my first MRI.
According to the results they said it was normal. No signs of MS.Well the symptoms continued for the next 10 years or so.We have seen than moved and I got a new Doctor or 2 or 3,so I had 2nd and 3rd opinions.
Well my new Doctor sent me to a specialist. She is a Professor in Neurology at UC Davis in Ca.Well my second MRI was done and yes the results were to say that I do have scars on my brain, that is what Multiple Sclerosis means "many scars" The Doctors refer to the scars as lesions.
So I had no choice but to accept this news. I have a very supportive family and a good husband. But I remember the day I found out I said to my mom " I dont know what I am going to do" My husband did not know quite how to handle it either.
It has been about 12 years now and my main, and worse symptom is fatigue.I have many other symptoms also. But a good thing has come from this outcome, it has made me realize you have to ( try) to enjoy life because it is so precious.
Now I am not trying to say "wo is me" but if any of you have read my other reviews you know that my 3 children also have disabilities. And that makes me treasure life even more.
I remember my mom telling me God only gives you what you can handle, so I guess I was meant to deal with these things that have been handed to me.I mention my mom a lot, because she is so very special to me.
So remember whatever life throws your way you will probably make it through.
I hope this has been informative to someone out there.
