Much bigger than a standard floppy, but just as slow.

Pros: Can hold up to 120 MB on SuperDisks. Uses standard floppies too. Very portable.
Cons: Ties up your parallel port. Very slow.

| Maytwa's Full Review: Imation SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive |
I purchased this drive to have a means to back up large files and to more easily transfer files between my computer and my girlfriends. As it turns out, the thing was more trouble than it was worth.
My biggest dislike for the product was the speed at which it wrote.
It claims to be twenty-something times as fast as a floppy, and it may be, but it is still terribly slow. It took somewhere around 30 minutes for me to write the disks full capacity, 120 MB. That is about twice the time it takes to burn a CD-RW, and the CD-RW will hold 650 MB!
My second pet peeve with the product is the connection to the computer.
It goes between the PC and the printer (if you have one that is) through what is called the parallel port. This seems great if you don't have any other available options, but I warn against it. First, you can't use your printer if you are using the Superdisk. Second, you can't connect any other devices through your printer port. I also have a parallel port scanner, and I have to disconnect the Superdisk to use it. Not to mention when I do this I have to restart. (A note to more computer advanced readers... Yeah, I did try to add another port. For me, that was a complete disaster)
Its good points...
It stores 120 MB on a disk that is very similar to regular floppies. Please note that you do have to buy the special 120-MB disks to get this extra space. It will use your regular floppies as well, so you end up with an extra floppy drive. Also, it is very small so you can carry it between computers with no effort.
In short...
I don't recommend this particular Imation product. If you really want a Superdisk spring for the extra $50, or so, and get the USB version. I assume this will be a good bit faster due to the type of connection, and I hope you would have much less inconvenience. If what I have said turns you off to the idea of it, then buy a CD-RW. True they are more expensive, but I think you'll find them more flexible. I wrote an epinion on a great internal CD-RW that you should find at the following location.
