Cons:It talks, most printers don't, scary
Yes I will agree with most others that this is an amazing printer. Selling printers daily, I get extensive demonstrations of each printers abilities constantly. Customers for some reason like to walk through Best Buy's printer aisles and make every printer print a demo page (even though one is sitting next to the printer) - side note: customers must kill millions of acres of trees a year in test pages because I know Best Buy doesn't recycle. Before the Z series I never recommended Lexmark to anyone. I felt they made cheap printers, and their top loading design led to frequent paper jams. I pushed people towards Epson (quality) or HP (speed and cost). Then the Z-51 lands on our shelves and the Lexmark Rep does a little demo, and I'm hooked.
The Z51 is USB which is the only way to fly. I can switch the Z51 between my desktop and laptop without rebooting in a matter of seconds. A Plus is that the Lexmark software lets you designate which USB port (1 or 2) its connected to (Something my USB scanner and joystick will not) which is convienent. The speed is tremendous. It boasts close to 9 pages a minute; which no one really will ever see, but i can print about 7+ which is great for the price. The most amazing thing is the quality. Epson used to be King for Quality in printing with 1440x720 DPI (DPI really is irrelevant though) but Lexmark broke this with it's 1200x1200 resolution. On standard grade paper, printouts look tremendous. On photo paper its truly photo quality. The other big plus is it's accu-feed technology really prevents paper jams (not 1 to date in the 4 months of ownership).
The only con I see is that it talks to you. Some people like that stuff, I think it's a sign that computers are conspiring to overthrow humans :) I love this printer, the ink is reasonably priced, quality is second to none, speed is amazing, USB is godly, etc... I have seen the light and it is LEXMARK...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
