I wouldn't wish an Acer on my worst enemy!

I owned an Acer for 3 years before I got so fed up with their lack of technical and product support and bought a Compaq. I've only had the Compaq for five months now, but I can see that I am in a whole new league, and kick myself for staying with Acer for so long.
My Acer problems started the moment I powered it up and the system recognized new hardware and I had to answer questions about these new devices without any documentation about how to answer the questions. The net result was a system that did not recognize its own modem. I have since learned that if they had tested the computer by powering it up just ONCE this problem could have been averted. So much for quality assurance. The whole reason I bought the computer was to join the web revolution, and on the first night when I came home excited about surfing from home for the first time, I spent over an hour and a half trying to get technical support. Three days later I was able to get on the Internet for the first time from home. Things went smooth for about 6 months and then I had what turned out to be a total hard drive failure and was actually told that it was a known problem with those drives and they would replace it for free. Did they lose my registration card???? I lost so much software and data because of this I immediately bought a tape back up system, so I guess that's one good thing I got from Acer - Back up your data!!!!
You'd think I had suffered enough at this point but real trouble was just around the corner. About a month after the 1 year warranty expired the Acer multi-media monitor began to emit a humming sound and the only way I could get it to stop was to bend the power cord coming out of the monitor and tape at just the right angle. This fix lasted about 3-4 months and then the monitor began to have a very dull yellow hue and blink in and out on me. I tried for three straight weeks to convince technical support that they owed me at least the service of the monitor for all I had been through but I didn't get anywhere. I started saving my money again, and last November I finally went out and purchased my new Compaq. The funniest thing was, I couldn't even give the Acer away. No one who knew anything about computers wanted anything to do with it. That computer now sits in the dump in Framingham, MA in about a zillion pieces and will never agonize any one again.
