Action Names 4.06 accomplishes what no one program can do: it serves as a souped up datebook, contacts list, to do keeper, etc!!! It integrates all of these features beautifully into the interface. Easy to use and learn. I will detail the key features that make this the must buy for your Palm!
Contacts- The contacts management is excellent. It features lettered tabs on top of the screen like you would see in an "old-fashioned paper daily planner". Unlike SuperNames where the letters are hard to click on, Action Names's tabs are large and nearly impossible to click on the wrong one. You can arrange names in a variety of ways by last name, first name, or company name. By tapping on the phone number a small popup window appears with all the vital info for the contact (all phone numbers, email address, etc). Finally, you can customize the views further by grouping contacts by company, state, etc...
Datebook- Clearly superior to the Palm's default datebook. Highly customizable! Action Names features icons and a feature where you can draw your own icons. On daily view, you can view traditional style, or a nice interface with a chart- times on the right and the appointment on the left. Of course, Action Names integrates to dos into the datebook. Weekly view can be seen with bars, or the actual appiontments in 1 week or 2 week view. Monthly view is pretty much the same as Datebook, but you can view Icons, or Clocks instead of the dots normally found. The final view is a quarterly view... the appointments for any day you select are shown on the screen and you can easily jump to any day you choose. In comparison with Datebook 3, Action Names is at least equal as a Datebook. Action Names does not have the yearly view or list view. However, Action Names is easier to use and provides the quarterly view which is far superior to Datebook's view. (In fact Datebook 4 is planned to have a quarterly view.)
Scheduling- A breeze. With Action Names, you can enter in times th traditional way or use a sliding bar, which saves time. On top of the screen you enter the contact's name (the form autofills based on address book entries) . On the bottom you write what the appointent is. The advantage of this system is that there is a button to instantly display the phone number etc. for the contact. This is not included in Datebook3. Of course, you do not have to enter a contact if you do not wish. Again, Action Names is HIGHLY customizable and can suit just about any need you have.
ToDos- You can add Todos from the Action Names interface. It automatically gets entered as a datebook entry and also appears on the default to do list. If there is an disadvantage of this program, it is that there is not a way to display all todos on one screen. But this is really a minor point.
Ease of SAwitching Apps- A breeze. There are 5 buttons always on the bootom of the screen: 1,7,31, 1/4, and a person. These correspond to the calendar views and teh contact list.
Final Points- To add a new todo, contact, etc. all you do is press the new button on the bottom of the action names screen and it comes up quickly and easily. I will go as far to say if you have %19.95 to spend on one product, you are cheating yourself if yyou do not buy this one.
Note on other Action Names reviews- My review is for version 4.06. the other reviews addressed previous versions. Action Names is a product that is constantly being updated and improved. I have not experienced the bugs that other reviewers speak of. These must have been fixed by the programmers.
