I just got an awesome deal on a Palm IIIe and I'm so stoked that I have to let the world know. The best price I could find anywhere else was about $160 and that was from ghetto company that wasn't very trustworthy. I got this great $139.99 deal at outpost.com. I live in Cali, but I didn't have to pay the 8% sales tax so that's nice. Plus Free OVERNIGHT shipping. Thats a savings of about $10-15. I'm not sure how long this sales going to last so if you're in the market for a Palm go there right away.
Part of the reason I'm so happy is because I was going to get a PalmIIIx for $199 the night before but the rebate offer expired and I was a bit hesitant because $200 was more than I wanted to spend and most IIIe's were going for $179 so for 20 more I got twice as much memory. I'm so happy I got this deal though cause it's a lot closer to what I wanted to spend and I really don't think I'd need the 4MB of memory. Well, once I have a little time to use it, I'll write a full-fledged review of the thing, but I thought I'd alert anyone in the market for a Palm about this deal.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, when I clicked on the link to see a description/buy the product, the page was down. I called up Customer Support and they emailed tech and said it would be fixed then transfered me to sales where I placed my order by phone. May already be fixed by the time you read this though.
**********UPDATE 3/4/2000*****
Well, I've had my Palm for a while now and some people have been asking how it worked out. So here's my answer:
So far it's been just so, so. The reason is that I am a college student and am pretty lazy. I just don't find it very practical to put stuff like "skip class today and get drunk with friends" or "sit on my lazy butt writing epinions and surfing the net" in the daily planner. The initial idea was that this would inspire me to be more organized and more ambitious which it did for a few weeks. Hopefully in the next couple years when I actually start having responsibilities this will come in handy.
On the other hand, this product does have its upsides. I use avantgo.com to download newspaper, weather reports and other frequently used info from the net which I then can look at whenever I want. This is without a doubt the most useful feature for me. The phone book also gets used quite a bit.
Basically, this technology is here to stay and I figured might as well become aqquainted with it now. There are still things that can be improved. The Graffiti handwriting isn't as easy as people make it seem and I think the stylus thing is kinda annoying, but pretty much every handheld has that feature. All in all, I'd say this is a good buy if you are a tech-savy person who has a lot of stuff to do and would like to be more organized.
