As a poor struggling college student, I don't have the resources to pay for an internet provider. Through Juno (which I have reviewed), I use AOL Instant Messenger to chat with friends that are more than 300 miles away.
When AIM was first released the program was quite basic, having barely any features. As of the recent release, AIM 4.0, users can create profiles, find buddies with common interests, utilize buddy icons, view a stock/news ticker, read e-mail, send IM images, and even voice chat.
Even if you do not have any friends that use AOL (almost everyone does), AIM allows you to find people that have similar interests as you. I've used other chat programs, such as ICQ (which I have reviewed). AIM is top of the line software for messaging and finding new friends.
