Excellent Performer

I was looking for a laptop that would do office applications and play DVD movies. I wasnt looking for a good game machine. THat is exactly what I got with this laptop. Despite its gaming defficiencies, it is still a very useful computer for the majority of people.
The 3D performance on this computer is aweful. However, Nvidia is coming out with its Go Processor and this should bring the world of 3D games. I tried to play Half-life on this computer and in 640x480 resolution I got 8 frames per second. Considering that Half-life runs at 70 frames per second on my desktop, the performance is abysmall.
Every other aspect of this computer is wonderful. I got a 15" screen for watching movies and its great. Whenever I have to take a trip, I just sit back, relax, and watch a movie. I got the XGA screen and it is definately of high enough quality to play movies. The SXGA screen may have more pixels but it will probably not improve quality that much. However, if you have the money it may help. I have Office 2000 and it takes up alot of ram. That's why I put 96MB of ram in the computer. I would have like 128MB but it was just too expensive. With the Intel Celeron 500 and 96MB ram, office runs crisply. There is a noticable slow down on large powerpoint presentations but that happens on most computers.
Overall, this is a very good computer that will serve most everyone's needs. Dell's prices may be a little high, but they make up for it in tech support and help. I really enjoy this computer because of all teh things that it allows me to do away from home. It is an excellent purchase.
