| Nemmeran's Full Review: Gateway Performance 800 deluxe |
My family has purchased many many Gateway 2000 (And now Gateway) systems over the years. They always used to cost a little more, but the stability was worth it. I still have an old gateway 486 that was my fathers's secretary's system, until I recently gave it away.
Recently, my Mother purchased a complete gateway system at a quite affordable price. Being her son, I was quickly elected as the one to set this up. The cables and whatnot were easy, as is expected. Everything she asked for was in the system, setup quite well.
After everything was setup, it booted like a new system should, but many do not. I was immediately stricken with horror to see the Windows Millenium Edition boot screen. I had very little experience with this OS, all of which was horrible. Upon checking their website, I now see that you have NO CHOICE other than WinME. I know that they probably have some form of deal with Micro$oft to offer only their latest.
Operating system aside, the system seems to be considerably slower than it should be. My personal system, a P2 450, 256MB PC100 Alienware, can run anything at about 2x the speed at least. I know the RAM makes a difference, but it shouldn't be that drastic.
The system would be easy to use for almost anyone, so I would recommend a Gateway system to just about anyone.
