Avoid Gateway Buy Local
Dec 23 '00
Gateway needs to give each person his or her own store representative for a year. It is so frustrating to spend $4000 then have problems and can't get it fixed. Some of the problems I experienced were shut-down problems and problems with my modem. Come to find out, my modem was the least expensive and wasn't compatible with one of the software programs I planned on using (Winfax) No one told me that when I purchased Gateway. No one told me that when I needed technical support, I would have to do it by e-mail with a different rep every time. No one told me that I would have to act as my own technician and read three or four pages of e-mail telling me what to do to my computer. Scary!
For as great as technology is, there is nothing like being able to speak face to face with someone in your area instead of relying on different people thousands of miles away who may or may not know your computer and your circumstances. I will never purchase from Gateway again. I will go to a local dealer where I can walk in the store and get the help I need. If nothing else, salesmen should be aware of the potential software problems when selling to a customer so that the customer knows if their problem is hardware or software. I have had shutdown problems ever since buying my Gateway and come to find out it is a common problem with Windows 98. In the meantime, their tech support has had me adding and subtracting files to solve a problem with the computer that didn't exist!
