Laptop computer systems come and go. When the time came to replace my pentium 166 system, I explored the market at great length. While each manufacturer has some pros and some cons; only Gateway remains consistant. The 2550 is a solidly built, straight forward machine. The controls are simple to use, set-up was quick and easy, and in typical Gateway fashion; everything worked correctly right out of the box. The software came preinstalled and all programs were fully functional.
By adjusting the the various power settings on the unit, I was able to get about 2 and a half hours of steady, intense computing from a fully charged battery. Less intense use showed battery life approaching 4 hours.
This unit also has both a modem and an ethernet card for connecting to the Internet or to other local networks. Both function extremely well.
The system has traveled coast-to-coast without a single problem.
