| Lotus4x's Full Review: DocuPrint M750 Printer |
This is one of the best printers I have ever used, and my bet would be that if you use the Xerox M-750 you will have to agree. I am going to do the best I can to explain the benefits of this printer, and how and why it is so much better then the rest. So here we go.
To start out, the M-750 has a couple of features that no other printer has. Most printers come with one solid ink cartridge for color and one solid ink cartridge for black. And the way the ink level is measured in the cartridges is by a page counter in the machine. This is a huge draw back. First off if you have all of your ink in one cartridge, red yellow and blue, and you run out of yellow, you will still have blue and red ink left in the cartridge, and that ink is no good to you. Now you have to replace the entire ink cartridge because you have run out of one color. Statistics show that normally there is a minimum of 20% to 25% of ink left over in the cartridges that have not yet run out of ink. So if you run out of yellow, you are going to have 20 to 25% of blue and red left over. This means you are throwing away perfectly good ink that you can't get to, and after 4 replacements you have basically thrown away a full ink cartridge, and at a price of $34.95 to $42.95 per cartridge that is a lot of money. The page counters that keep track of ink levels are normally way off as well. They count the number of pages that are running through the printer and subtract a certain pre-set amount of ink from the ink level. So if you use more ink then the pre-set amount, and us do this on a regular basis, you are going to run out of ink much faster then the machine tells you, you will.
The Xerox machine works much different and much more efficient, and here is how and why. There M-750 uses individual ink cartridges in its machine. This give you the ability to change the color you run out of without throwing away good ink. So if you run out of blue you go and buy a blue and replace the blue. The red and yellow stay in contact and are not replaced until they themselves run out. The M-750 does not use the page counter system like the rest of the systems do. Instead the M-750 uses individual (LED's), Light Emitting Diods, that measures the level of ink in each individual tank. So each ink tank has a special type of light, and it measures the level of ink in each tank and tells you when your levels are low and need to be replaced. And when you run out of ink the M-750 will actually stop printing and allow you to switch ink cartridges and start back up in the same spot you left off at, and it as if you never ran out of ink. No other machine out there can do that. All others will just finish printing the page in blue and red if you ran out of yellow, or what ever color you run out of. The M-750 with individual ink tanks is so much more cost effective than a full cartridge system. The in runs $12.49 for each color tank, and you only replace the color you need to, and you never waste any ink. This system that Xerox uses is called INK LOGIC, and it is a wonderful and very functional idea.
The M-750 also uses a process of printing that is not used by any other system. All printers come with 3 print modes, Draft, Normal and Photo. The Xerox M-750 also comes with a mode call Express Mode. Express Mode is the same a normal mode, but 2 to 3 times faster. The reason for this is because of the way the M-750 lays down the ink in the paper in this mode. All other printers print in a way that when they print head passes across the paper from left to right the printer lays down 50% of the ink, then when the print head travels back from left to right, the printer lays down the other 50%, then the printer drops to the next line and does the same thing. The Xerox M-750 when printing lays down 100% of the ink from left to right, then drops a line, then on the pass back the M-750 again lays down 100% of the ink. Now the M-750 is on its 3rd line and all other printers will be on there second line. There isn no printer out there that is under $400.00 that is faster then the
M-750 in normal mode. The M-750 can print out 3 pages to everyone else 1.5 and in some cases 1 page. And it does this without loosing any resolution or print quality. Again this is called Express Mode. So the M-750 comes with the standard modes of Draft, Normal and Photo, and a bonus mode known as Express.
As you can see the M-750 has a number of great qualities about it, and for the price it can not be beat. The M-750 is also Macintosh compatible, and the drivers are available to download from the web sites, WWW.XEROX.COM most printers on the market today are not compatible with Macintosh. Also, Xerox offers a 1 year warranty on the M-750, they are the only company that I know that will give you 100% free technical support for the life of the printer. Most companies will give you free support for the first 90 days, then after that you have to call a 900 number or pay $19.95 a month or something. Also if you have a problem with your printer and Xerox can not take care of the problem for you over the phone, you will have a new printer on your door step within 48 hours. All you have to do is put the one that doesn't work in the box, and they guy that delivers the new printer will take the old one back with him.
As you can see the Xerox M-750 is a great printer with a lot of offer. In almost all magazines, PC World, PC Magazine, C-NET, Amazon.com, Best Review, Comp USA and many many more, the M-750 is rated in the top 3 printers on the market today. With the many things the
M-750 has to offer, such as, individual ink tanks, ink level measured by LED, Ink Logic, Express Mode and a price of $99.00 you can't beat it. The closest printer out there is $299.99, and it still isn't as good. The M-750 has an outstanding print quality, the Text is the closest thing to laser that you can get without going to a laser printer and the photo mode has bright vibrant colors that burst off the page. If you are in the market for a printer, and you want something fast with good color and that will save you money, then the Xerox M-750 is for you. And even if you don't need everything this machine offers, for $99.00 you would be doing yourself a huge disservice if you didn't at least go and check the
M-750 out.
