For me, choosing a monitor is the most difficult part of assembling a new computer. After weeks of trying to pick between all of the major brands, I deceided to give the Samsung a chance, largely due to some of the other epinions posted at this site. I have to say that I am not disappointed.
The Samsung SyncMaster 955SL is a great monitor available at a fabulous price. I purchased this monitor from an online retailer for $339.00, which is a good price for any 19" monitor, but absolutely amazing for a monitor of this quality. I have the Samsung sitting side by side with a Sony Trinitron 420GS, and the Samsung performs just as well as the Sony but comes in at almost $300 cheaper.
The display on this unit is crisp and clear, and the colors are very rich. It has a virutally flat screen, not quite as flat as a true Trinitron but close enough, and seems to be the only .22 dot pitch monitor that I could find in this price range.
So far, I have absolutely no complaints about this monitor. It was up and running right out of the box without needing to adjust any screen settings whatsoever. It compares favorably to other high-quality monitors such as those by Sony or NEC, but comes in at a fraction of the cost.
