I bought a Dell Dimension L400c. My old computer was an AST Adventure 210--with only 133mz. So, I needed a new one!
We looked at several models. Including ones from Gateway. But, the similar computer at Gateway (with the extras we added to this one) was about $500 more. So, we went with Dell.
We started by ordering the computer on the internet. We used the small business site to order from. When we did not get a follow-up call the next day--as promised in the confirmation e-mail, we called them up on the phone. The business side of Dell said they couldn't do that. A mistake had been made to the site and that was too bad. She then transferred us to individual sales. This lady was a lovely woman. We sent her a copy of our confirmation e-mail, and she made it happen for us. For the price quoted--even though it was below the actual cost of making it. The computer didn't take too long to ship. Arrived in about 7 business days. But, missing the speakers. Called her back up and she went ahead and sent out new speakers--no charge. (The speakers were in the confirmation e-mail, she just missed them)
Also, the internet ordering seems to price out differently on different times. Don't know why??? Guess it doesn't work right. This is how we got the lower price. ($899 with several extras!)
The computer runs nicely. It comes with a lot of great software. Mostly Microsoft products--Works, Explorer, Greeting Cards, etc. It runs very fast--but coming from a 133, anything would be an improvement!
It took awhile to get all my hardware to work (printer and scanner). But, this was my fault.
The great thing is how you put it together. All parts are colored coded for easy assembly. Nothing could be easier!
Dell, so far, has been great with customer service. I have not tried out the technical support yet. I hope it will be as great.
The only thing I'd say, was be certain when ordering off the internet--that it is actually ordered and coming. I'd follow up with a call to make for sure.
