I bought this Dell laptop because I needed something new from my huge 200Mhz Desktop computer. My computer science classes require quite some time at a computer for programs, therefore decided a laptop would help me get some work done in between classes.
Dell has one of the best reputations, up there with Gateway and IBM. I've never liked Hewlett Packard or Compaq, and I decided just to find a laptop between Dell and Gateway. I've heard much about Dell's desktops and did a little researching into their laptops.
I didn't want to get a Celeron processor. Don't get me wrong they're perfect for those who can't afford Pentium III or AMDs. Pentium III is what I needed for its high quality and performance.
This laptop is GREAT!!
PROS:
* 128mb of RAM is perfect for any inpatient person like me. This laptop zips through almost everything.
* Huge hard drive lets me put anything I want on it. I still have 11/12 of it left over. Downside is that it takes a while to perform scandisk and defrag if your hard drive has a lot taken up.
* DVD player is perfect for those boring car rides when you don't want to look at just highway.
* This screen is WONDERFUL. I get so many compliments about the screen. It's huge and has such good picture.
CONS:
* Internal speakers aren't the best, but you can't expect them to be when they are only an inch or two in diameter. External speakers solve that problem.
* Mouse touch-pad is a little sensitive. I'm used to the little mouse button in the middle of the keyboard. It just takes time getting used to.
* Don't get me wrong, this laptop is great. The bad part is this thing is heavy. I'm not the strongest person in the world, so it might be heavier for me than for everyone else. IT's pretty thick (2.5" total) and weights about 9 lbs.
Overall, I think I got my money's worth. I haven't had any problems with it. Battery life is about 3 hours. You can purchase a second battery though. Would recommend this for anyone.
