**Pros:**
I initially bought Caldera OpenLinux because it was much cheaper than most other versions of Linux. Also, the installation is much nicer with it's built in graphical interface. Even if you have to wait a while for the installation, this version of Linux (unlike others) actually starts copying files while you set it up. And if you get done before it is done installing, you get to play *Tetris* while you wait. Like most versions of Linux that you buy, it automatically installs the GUI (Graphical User Interface). (Caldera OpenLinux comes with the KDE GUI.) To sum it up, Caldera OpenLinux is a relatively easy to use OS with a nice fluffy interface all the way through.
**Cons:**
One of the biggest problems with Caldera OpenLinux is that it has big compatibility problems with RedHat RPM compressed files (A little like Winzip for you Windows users). Caldera OpenLinux does not come with many of the required pre-installed resources that RPMs need. It is great for setting up a server that needs to be stable but doesn't need to do a whole lot. It is also great for newer PC users, but it really doesn't fit the needs of gamers or people that will want it to do anything more than networking and word-processing.
**Alternatives:**
For gamers or people that really aren't newbies and want something more powerful, I suggest Redhat Linux. The only two problems that would be worth mentioning is that is does not come with BootMagic which allows a dual boot system. (I.E. Windows & Linux on same system with choice of which system to boot to.) Also, it is rather expensive (+$90) compared to the alternatives (+$20). If you want a less expensive option, I would suggest Mandrake Linux, which is 99.99% compatible with Redhat Linux with a few "extras". It also prices at a nice low $30.
