Is it really that easy??? YES IT IS!!!!

Lately you have noticed that your computer has been a little more bogged down than normal. ITs probably because of a new program that you installed, or having several programs running at the same time. You wonder what you can do the correct this problem. The answer is a RAM upgrade.

The first step in upgrading your memory is to determine what style of memory you have. There are many different styles of memory out there.
You have 72pin simms, you have SD (dimms), and there is the ever so ancient 30 pin simms. (If your computer still has 30pin simms, forget upgrading the RAM, go out and get yourself a brand new computer)

Most of the time if you have bought a department store computer (compaq, emachine, pack bell) you will get a invoice of the computer components that are on the computer. This invoice will normally tell you what style of memory that you have.

If your invoice doesnt have this, this is the next best step. Call your local RAM seller and tell them the brand name, model number of the computer that you have. They will be able to help you from there. 99% of the time, you will get the correct memory from them.

The least favorite option is to physically remove the memory that you have in your computer, and take it to the store for them to examine the style of memory. The only benefit to this is the fact that most computer stores have a RAM checker that will tell exactly which style of memory it is. That is the only benefit. And it is a hassle.

Most of the stores out there like CompUSA, BestBuy, and others carry certain brands of RAM. These manufacturers have books by the memory, just like the ones at the auto store when your figuring out what kind of wiper blades your car needs. These guides are very helpful for a beginner or an advanced technician.

Ok, you have bought your new RAM and you want to install it. Buying the RAM could be the hardest part of this process.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

Step 1: Remove the screws from the back of the case and remove
case cover from the computer.

Step 2: Locate where the memory on the motherboard is located and examine
how it is situated.

Step 3: There is only one way for the memory to be installed. The RAM
will have groves, notches in it. So now gently place the memory
in the available slot for it. Proceed to apply very little
pressure to the RAM. It should snap into place without much
effort. If it does not go in without much pressure, remove
the RAM and try to install it the opposite way you just did
(again, examine the slots, notches in the ram and line them up
with how the empty slot works) and repeat the same process.

Step 4: After the RAM is installed, reconnect the keyboard and
everything else. DO NOT PUT THE CASE LID BACK ON YET!!
Just incase the computer does not work properly, yo udont want
to take it all apart again to remove the memory and try it again.

Step 5: If the computer works and counts the extra RAM you have installed
CONGRATS!!! It wasnt as bad as you thought it would be ;) If
it does not work, try to take out the RAM and put it in again.
Sometimes it is very picky. After that it should work.

Step 6: Put the case cover back on the computer and put the screws back
in place, and you are finished.
