I have used ATI products for a while now. Typically ATI produces a very strong card. I like how versatile they are and I am pleased with the results of this card. Mind you it is not a hard core gaming card.

Ok, now here we go. I installed a Rage Fury 128 into a computer with a Giga-Byte 7ZX-1 Motherboard, an AMD Thunderbird 800 MHz CPU, 128 MB ram, SB Live Value, Maxtor 30 GB Hard drive and running Windows Millennium. During the installation process, Windows found the card and installed the appropriate drivers. During the reboot, I encountered a Windows Protection Fault. So I removed the drivers and went to the Internet and got the newest drivers. I installed them and again, encountered the same protection error. I also ran a utility and found that one of the Ati files called ati2evxx.exe was using 98% of the cpu power and really affected the computer’s operation.

After a lengthy phone call to ATI Tech support, I was told to rename the Ati gart directory and then install the VIA Chipset 4-in-one Drivers. Ati was not aware of this problem but this solution worked. I was informed that the drivers that came with the card have a slight incompatibility with Via chipset motherboards. They also were not aware of the file that was using so much processor power. I am waiting to hear back from them. Until I do, I have disabled that file so that it is not running. As far as I can tell, there is no change in the operation of the card’s features.

The main reason why I am writing this report with that heading is that this is not the easiest card to install. If you have intermediate to advanced computer technical knowledge then you can probably figure it out. If not, let a professional install it for you or choose a different product entirely.
