| YankeeJ23's Full Review: Palm IIIe Personal Organizer |
Who says size matters? With the Palm IIIe Organizer, you can practically program your entire life into literally, the palm of your hand. Using this device, you'll never miss another meeting, deadline, or homework assignment (sorry, I'm a college student). I carry this around with me to everywhere that I go and I'm extremely pleased with the results that I'm getting from it.
The Palm IIIe is a hand-held electronic organizer that allows a user to program a schedule, an address book, a "To Do" List, and a Memo Pad among the many other various features that are included or can be installed. Along with the main elements, you can check/send e-mail, play a game of solitaire, do some arithmetic on the calculator, or even view your favorite web pages. Could this be starting to sound like a dream come true?
Well, I have to admit, I don't use every program in the organizer. In fact, I find the e-mail portion of it to be rather annoying. After purchasing the device, I found that I had to learn a whole new "language" in order for the Palm to recognize what I was trying to write. Letters, numbers, and symbols have to be written in such a precise and different manner on the screen, that I find the process to be extremely tedious and also a major turn-off. It's just so much easier and faster to handle the e-mail on the PC.
Unlike some of the more recent, more expensive versions of the Palm organizers, the Palm IIIe does not have a wireless internet connection. Through a process of connecting your organizer to your PC (called "HotSyncing"), new web pages can be downloaded and updates can occur. I really don't mind spending the extra time, however. By hooking the PDA (the Palm unit) up to the computer, it establishes a backup copy of everything to the PC and the whole process takes less than a minute to complete (and save you approximately $200).
I use the scheduler, the address book, and the "To Do" List almost religiously as would any other person with any other organizer. The difference here with this is definitely the added benefits that can come with or be installed into your device. You can read the New York Times in the morning through this, or the forecast from the Weather Channel, check stocks, or even sports scores and stories. This is can all be done through the simple program called "AvantGo," which usually has to be downloaded into the organizer.
I recommend the Palm IIIe Organizer for anyone from the age of a college student to the age of a grandparent. It's fairly inexpensive (compared to others), it'll fit in your pocket, it's easy to use and fun once you get the hang of it, and most importantly...it will keep you organized!
