These days, the Internet service provider market has become really competitive. Cost competition has forced many providers to lower their prices. However, a side effect of that is the loss of effective service. I know, because my last ISP, although they lowered their rates, couldn't come through with good service. I couldn't connect to any sites, and tech support was less than helpful.
I switched to Lava.Net several years ago and I haven't been disappointed.
Lava.net bucks this trend toward low cost/low service by concentrating on providing a superior level of service. Perhaps the biggest thing you'll notice when you sign up is their "no busy signal" policy. To many ISPs, no busy signals means they add more modems when busy signals are detected.
At Lava.net, they sell no Internet access before its time. They ensure that they have enough modems to handle the demand before they put you on. If they can't handle the demand, you'll be wait listed. But when you get on, you'll notice the difference right away. A nearly 100% connection rate. True Internet on demand.
And their technical support is second to none. When I had problems getting my mail, the support people were courteous and helpful and were able to get me back up and running.
Their cost is more expensive than most other ISPs in the Honolulu area ($25 at LavaNet vs. $20 elsewhere), but for the superior service, it's worth it.
I highly recommend LavaNet to anyone.
