WorldSpy.com
Worldspy is the second free Internet service provider I’ve tried.
You may already know that I’ve been using Juno for a while, now, and have no major complaints about it. It’s fast, has a lot of access numbers in Atlanta, and has a small ad banner that you can move around your screen. Occasionally, you lose your web connection, but that happens even with high-speed major league equipment. So, I’m really very happy with Juno.
Wish I could say the same for Worldspy.
I downloaded the software from Worldspy.net. It downloaded in just a few seconds. Then I installed the package. I went through the routine of registering the software and noted that there was only one access number in the Atlanta area. Hmmmm. Well, I logged on and sure enough, it worked. Started checking my Epinions site. This is great! And, no pesky advertising banner to move around and get in the way of your clicker!
Boing! The pesky gray dialog box said: "Your computer was disconnected from the Web. Please try again later."
Several dial-ups and boings later, I gave up. Worldspy had failed Phase I of my scientific testing. I logged on to Juno and surfed to my heart’s content.
During the weeks since I’ve installed Worldspy, I’ve tried connecting numerous times to the web. No soap. It dials its single number, you hear the modem do its thing, then the browser opens. You go to your favorite website, and boing! You are soon disconnected. So for the long term phase of my testing, Worldspy was also a bust.
I know from reading some of the Worldspy reviews here, some of you recommend this ISP highly, but in my case it is not a viable option. Maybe your area has more access numbers. It looked like a lot of phone numbers were on the West Coast.
Well, if your experience is better than mine, I’m happy for you. Worldspy just doesn’t appear to be ready for Atlanta, yet.
I will try Bluelight, Freeinet, and any other free ISPs I can find. I’ll keep you posted on the results.
