Cute but Powerful!

Written: Dec 16 '99
Pros:rugged, long battery life, easy to use, perfect for a student!
Cons:to cute for a professional, not enough features for an advanced user, not enough ram

My mother recently purchased an iBook and I can say it was a wise decision. The price point for performance is great. Try to find a PC laptop with as many feature for nearly the same price. The first thing I said when I saw the creamsicle orange toilet seat with laptop features, I snickered and said this isn't for me. But that is the point I need a feature rich machine with all of the options, I am an advanced user. I don't need something cute that I can carry by a handle. And this really is the point, this isn't for an advanced user this is for a student or an average user. The ibook is just what my mother needs. Simple, sleak, and easy to set up. We are talking about a machine that will last her for at least 3 years. The one thing that makes me jealous of this super modern fashion statement is the battery life ( up to 6 hours ), this is what makes it perfect for a student. If you have school for say 6 hours a day, you might use it 70% of the day and still have some good life left for the ride home. Another key feature is the learning curve, without any help she set up her internet and e-mail. The average or new computer user needs this simplicity to make the transition into the computer world easier than it has to be. It is nice to say that not only will it be easy to understand and use but it is rugged as well. The case design is strong enough for a 7 year old, if you trust a child with a 1600$ laptop. All in all if this is your first computer or a styled addition to your iMac you can't get any more bang for your buck. But make room in your budget for more ram, to really take advantage of its power you need at least 64mb's of ram.
