| opinionated3's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 8000dn Printer |
I have seen over the past couple of years seen a lot new improvements in laser printers. I am very partial to HP LaserJet printers. I have used laser printers from other manufacturers and I think HP has the best printers going in all categories. In my job as a computer service technician I have worked on and used most of HP laser printers, I guess that is why I say I am partial to HP. I also feel from a quality and reliability stand point know tops a HP laser printer.
The first time I used this HP 8000DN I was really impressed with it's printing speed and print quality. HP has developed there printers to be not only very fast, but also to produce high quality images. With it's print speed of 24 pages per minute it is perfect for a large work group or small department. This printer achieves such great quality text printing, by printing 1200 dpi or dots per inch.
The second thing I noticed with this specific printer is it's ability to print on both sides of the paper, this is a very helpful feature for a business that prepares billing statements, or bank statements. This feature that makes this possible is what is called a duplexing unit. This unit brings the paper back through printing process a second time, except for it is on the back of the page from the original pass. In the past you had to reload the paper to be able to print on the back of the page. The only draw back to this is it reduces the printing speed because it has to go back through the printer a second time.
I would like to take a couple of minutes to discuss the biggest factor to consider when purchasing a laser printer. The biggest thing to consider when choosing a laser printer is the work load. The printer is designed to handle a certain number of pages so it doesn't wear the printer out faster that it should. This is called the printers duty cycle, the HP 8000DN has a duty cycle of 130,000 pages per month. This makes it a very useful printer for high volume applications. The reason the duty cycle is set a certain number of pages is because a laser uses rubber rollers to move the paper through the printer and as the paper moves through the rollers, the rubber rollers accumulate paper dust which reduces the printers ability to move the paper through the printer and will cause the printer to jam.
The HP 8000DN comes standard with three paper tray's which gives it a capacity of 1,100 sheets of paper, this will allow for larger unattended print jobs. It comes with 16mb of memory to handle larger files and to allow entire print jobs to be held in what is called a print buffer, that allows for faster printing and allowing the user's to get back to the next task when finished printing.
The Hp 8000DN also has optional paper trays to expand the paper handling of this printer up 3,100 sheets, this is accomplished by added a 2000 sheet paper tray, this feature goes directly on the bottom of the printer.
The printer is connected to your network by use of a internal print server and an ethernet cable connected to you network hub. This allows all your work stations in a give department the ability to share the printer.
In conclusion I would recommend this printer if speed and printing on both sides of the page is a must. The high quality text printing is definitely a plus.
