| Treen's Full Review: Creative Labs Creative 3D Blaster RIVA TNT2 |
After my 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 fried it's way out of my agp slot, I was in need of a new video card. First off, it had to be an AGP. a PCI would just not do, and if I have the AGP slot why go PCI? Second, it needed to perform just as well, if not better, than the Voodoo3 3000 did. Third, it had to be cost-effective, I felt I had overpaid for my Voodoo3 so this was my chance for revenge.
I'm not going to bore you with the specifications and technobabble here, if you want that check out www.nvidia.com and they will tell you all about refresh rates and gigaflops and all kinds of nice stuff. First off, the card was easy as heck to install, coming pretty close to "true" plug-n-play. Once I had my system started I immediately wanted to check out the 32 bit color display since that was one of it's selling points. nice. not overwhelming, but nice.
I popped in Quake 2, it being a game I had played on both cards. All I have to say is...Sweet! Quake 2 never looked or ran better. It really kept about 60 frames/second at my favorite resolution of 800x600. Everything I threw at this card was great down to every last pixel. In fact my roomate was so impressed with it he went out and bought one of his own. I can't recommend this one enough.
I was initially worried with a few things, such as the cooling or should i say lack thereof; and that it was missing a few things that 3dfx could do, such as glide support. the card has worked very well though and i am satisfied
