| sane2k's Full Review: Dell Dimension XPS T600 |
After reviewing an enormous amount of "good" rated reviews, I've decided to search the net in hopes to find a PC that gives you exactly what you need at the price you can laugh about. Over the years of using the internet and computers in general, I've learned if you want value and if you want the product for what it's worth then you have to actually put a little bit of consideration for doing it yourself.
I am gonna give a few pointers about listening to everyone else, it's like gambling on the stock market or betting on horse races, just because the majority claim "it's so" doesn't mean it's a true winner. I have read the reviews of many of epinion's "advisors" on purchasing PC's, and I have to say it's trash. I am not trying to bash anyone or anything, but you need not post where your opinion isn't full of truth, and based on value aswell as pricing. Just because you pay $2000 for a PC that you've had good experiences on doesn't mean you didn't get ripped off yourself. Many name-brand processors you can buy with motherboard packages and get the fan, cpu, and heatsink for less than $300, so just imagine how much money you are basically giving away when you purchase computers from major distributors.
Many of you may know, a computer looses value over a very short period of time as technology streams in like a river of water, so why would you pay that extra $500, $1500, or even $2000 dollars for a PC that you could get much cheaper and better if you just took the time to actually acknowledge that PC's are here to stay, it's a trend and in this day in time you need to know something about computers to do a vast majority of things, therefore as the technology grows, prices on last week's products drop, except from major computer distributors. Computer distributors are taking advantage of every single person who purchases a computer from them as this is the rise of computer technology. Today you will spend $1999 for the XPS T600, in a few years you will have to upgrade your computer to even run applications, then you will spend another $1999.
After searching the net for about 45 minutes and pasting alot of information into notepad, I have come up with a PC that just knocks the socks off the XPS T600 and leaves you with extra spending cash.
I've come up with a name for this computer that I've been searching for, and I've decided to call it "net-find".
My net-find consists of;
Operating System: Windows 98
Motherboard Package: Includes CPU/Fan/Heatsink/Mboard
Processor: Pentium 3 Coppermine
Speed: 800Mhz
Ram: 256MB
Hard Disk: 60.0GB
CD-RW: 8X4X32X IDE
Video: Voodoo5 (64MB)
Sound: AWE64
Floppy: 3.5inch 1.44MB
Printer: Hewlett Packard 810C
Speakers: Asound 480watt 3D Surround Sound
Monitor: 17inch Digiview
Price: $1,480 + 234.95 shipping, $1,714.95
If you don't know how to build a PC yourself you can either read the manuals or take it to a local PC shop and have them put it together for you. Depending on their rates you should only spend about $100 there for 2-3 hours of work. Saving you $184.05!
Still not happy with the price? Deduct $87 for the 60GB HDD and get a 30GB. Deduct $76 for the Voodoo5 64MB and get a GeForce2 32MB. Deduct $61 for the 256MB Ram and get 128MB. That will leave you with $408.05 and a system thats much faster and better peripherals. It's possible to have a PC built with the same hardware as the XPS for less than half the costs.
As for support, most companies offer support for their products and its usually free. A tip when looking for a PC, don't look for a PC in your price range, look for all the hardware and add it up, if it's over your balance, keep on looking, the internet is huge, and if you don't come up with what you expected, chances are you didn't look very well.
I hope this helps save alot of money for you who really need it, if you just keep giving it away to computer distributors you are gonna be the one who is always going to need it, yet they are all on salary with planned vacations and huge christmas bonuses. Thanks for listening.
