| mbmattson's Full Review: Compaq Presario 5600 |
The Compaq Presario 5600 series personal computer is
top of the line.
We had just gotten married and were looking for a good
computer that we could both use for work and school. We needed
a PC with speed as well as all the features we use with
our work and schools computers. We needed compatibility with
all of the software packages we were planning on incorporating
into our married lives.
We did a lot of research before deciding on this Compaq and
we ended up at Circuit City in Houston Texas. They usually
a pain to do business with since they hound you from the moment
you walk in, but that is what we needed this time. We needed
some additional guidance in choosing such a big item.
Setting up this computer was a piece of cake. The color coded
cables and connectors on the back made it simple and quick.
The detailed instruction book helped as well. It would be
very hard to mess up this set up.
The speakers it comes with are well made and mount on the
sides of the monitor. When playing music CD's, it sounds
as if I am playing them on our stereo system.
We have used different assesories with this machine. We
have hooked up an HP scanner, cordless Logitech mouse,
COM cable modem, MGE power saver, HP DeskJet printer, etc.
They have all worked fine.
We did have to replace the internal 56k modem. It totally died
right after our warrenty expired (of course). This would
have been a large problem if my Husband didn't know how to
replace internal modems. Service would have had to been called.
Some features that truly attracted us to this machine were:
- easy access buttons on the keyboard that are used to change
personal preferences such as size of screen or application
- a one step key will put your pc into energy saving sleep mode
- the Aureal 3D-Interactive sound system that sounds awesome
- CD player with easy tray load and ability to not only play
CD's but usage of Video CD's using Windows CD player
- DVD capability: we have watched many DVD movies on our PC
and it is crystal clear and the software is easy to use
- ZIP drive is used frequently by my husband with Zip disks
that hold 100MB of information
- Comes with iPhoto Express, ColorDesk Photo which works great
with our scanner
- internal 56k modem
- Compaq Video-phone ready
- instructions on using the internet and setting up your ISP
account
- ability to send and receive faxes with Microsoft Fax
- ability to connect to a Peer-to-Peer Network
- VideoPhone applications
- upgradable hard drive, memory, peripheral components, and
processor
- anti-virus application
- good tech support and warrenty options
..much much more.
Overall this computer has been great with no problems. It is
easy to use and fine for a family or individuals who need
a good PC with decent speed.
