I have written an epinion on "Bluefrog Internet" before, and now I would simply like to update some information:
• Blue Frog Internet is not quite free, but still a wonderful addition to the free internet business. Blue Frog has made some changes on their
website, and one of the latest developments is a $25.00 membership fee.
This is roughly $2.00/month for banner free internet access. This is
good news for those looking for a low cost alternative to dial up
access.
• Currently, Blue Frog serves the New York area, however, another new
addition to their site is the fact that they are showing area codes in
all parts of the country. To me, this indicates a possible trend toward
offering access nationwide, and while access is not available in my area
as of this writing, you can submit your name and area code. Once access
does become available in my area, I will be notified.
• According to their website, the use of a credit card or debit card is
required in order to access their services, but once the card number is
submitted and you are a registered member, your number will be erased
from their system.
• Requesting a credit card number is not necessarily a bad thing, and
let's face it: Most people who use credit cards use them sparingly,
and I suppose "Blue Frog" Internet feels that by requesting a credit
card number, people who are drawn to this site, will be a better "risk"
than those who do not have a credit or debit card. This is only
speculation on my part, since I know many, many, people who have never
used a credit card in their lives and have managed to get through life
just fine.
• In addition to the $25.00 membership fee, the users of this service will
be required to answer an occasional survey. I think this is also
totally acceptable for their services, and I myself have no qualms
about filling out an occasional survey.
•"BlueFrog Internet" can be used with the following operating systems:
• PC
• Mac
• Linux
• "BlueFrog" also offers both web and POP based email, which in addition
to no ad banners, is another reason to check into this service.
As I have stated in previous opinions, free internet as we have known it in the past, is definitely in a transition phase. There will be the occasional free internet provider that does show up, but in order to survive, some sort of financial gain is going to have to be made by those companies offering "free" internet. In my opinion, "Blue Frog" is headed in the right direction, and when and IF they do begin to provide service in my area, I will surely sign up.
"BlueFrog" as of this writing, rates 4 stars. Visit them at: www.bluefrog.net and see for yourself what they have to offer.
