| Almighty's Full Review: Apple LaserJet 2100tn Laser Printer |
Intended to be a true network laser printer I've found the HP LaserJet 2100TN to be a bit overkill to be used between my two personal computers.
I certainly have no gripes about the printer's quality and speed. Its black and white output at 10 pages per minute and 1200x1200 dpi is much improved over the 6 year old color ink jet printer I was using. The LaserJet 2100TN is a little bit smaller than the HP LaserJet 4 and 5 series printers that litter nearly every modern office environment today. It's bulk can be a problem if you don't have a lot of desk space to dedicate to a printer.
The printer does envelopes and labels like a champ. Letter and Legal sized paper trays are included with the printer along with a single toner cartridge and all the necessary print software/drivers. The printers styling is appealing. The attractive platinum gray high impact plastic casing is dotted by a single dark infrared receiver spot.
While I have not tried the printer's infrared connection capabilities, I think this is where the future of printing lies (wireless networking). The built in Jet Direct networking card allows me to connect the printer to my personal router and from there to all my computers. It's very nice to have a single printer on a combined Mac/PC environment.
The LaserJet 2100TN ships with 8MB of memory which I've found to be more than adequate when printing mostly text or web pages. If you plan on using it for graphics or image printing, you might consider upgrading the memory (up to 52 MB).
I paid just under $1000 for this printer and I've been very satisfied with its performance. While I can't honestly recommend this printer for those of you looking for an inexpensive home laser printer, I certainly would suggest it for high end users or businesses that have plenty of space to house it.
