Red hat is to unix what windows is to dos. It makes it so much easier and better it is almost frightening, while still keeping old world style functionality. you can do almost anything with red hat. any program for windows has an equivilant program for linux that is cheaper, faster, and stabler than its windows competitor.
The downside? well, you have to learn a whole know os from the ground up, it may look like windows, but it doesn't work at all the same way, thats why it runs so much better. Once you learn how to use red hat you are only half way there however, you also have to learn how to keep it usable. that means setting up scandisk type utilitys to keep everything running smoothly, and being carefull not to destroy or move imprortant files, linux won't protect you from yourself the way windows does. you have to know what your doing or its not gonna work. no plug and pray here.
The bottom line? if you want to learn a whole knew way of doing things thats faster and better than ms windows, pick up a copy or red hat and you will be glad you did. be forwarned though, this involves throwing out all the programs youve come to know and love, and replacing them with new ones, if you can handle that, your ready for linux, if not, don't format the c: drive yet.
