Overview
I just tried my new Gateway Solo 1100, and I have to tell you, I LOVE IT! It's really the best one I've ever had! It's pretty fast and easy to use, and the keys don't make that "RAT TAT TAT" noise when you type! :)
Things I love about it
- 12.1" 800 x 600 (SVGA) screen that is really crisp and clear. I didn't have any dead pixels when it came, and I hope to keep it that way.
- Intel Celeron 550MHz with 128K Cache makes it nice to use. It's not blazing fast, but it does nicer than most I've tested. Don't get scared because it's a Celeron, it really doesn't make much of a difference!
- 64Mb SDRAM I got upgraded to 128Mb because I'm a big gamer, and I want to be able to play games on this puppy without waiting for things to refresh.
- Keyboard is really nice. The keys have this smooth and rubbery feeling to the touch, and it's actually pretty comfortable to use.
- RJ-11 port, SVGA port, 2 USB ports that I use to stick MP3's on my Rio player. I really wish they had put some SVideo ports on it, maybe an audio out to EASILY hook up some external speakers.
- Internal V.90 56K Modem makes my online gaming nice and fast, well at least it's kind of fast.
- Integrated 10X min./24X max. makes my games load pretty quickly. I have a 32x in my other computer and they load in about the same time.
Bad Things I Don't Like About It
- The mouse is bad. I hate the little pointer mice that you have to use your finger to move around. I would recommend buying a mouse and hooking it up to the USB port, that's what I did and it made a BIG difference.
- The 6Gb hard drive is nothing to celebrate about. The standard is a lot higher, and they should know better than to put a 6Gb drive on it when there is 80Gb drives out there. A few more Gigs would be really nice.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this laptop to anyone who wants a nice laptop that doesn't burn too big of a hole in your pocket.
