| hockeychick14's Full Review: Final Fantasy VIII for PlayStation 1 |
FFVIII had its good points. An original plot, the new gunblade for Squall, some references to FFVII (Cloud's Junk Shop), and some humor made for a good game. However, there were equally as many not-so-good points about FFVIII. To begin with, the game play is a lot easier than in the previous games. As each player's level increases, so do the monsters' and bosses'. As well, the equipping of GF's and what was formerly known as materia is easier and allows for stronger characters. This game should be grasped fairly easily by anyone 10 y/o + up. Following defeating the game, don't buy the guide. (Or if you're inclined to cheat as you play, don't buy the guide when you buy the game) There are a multitude of websites devoted to walk-thru's and hints, including hidden draw point maps and best weapons. (All of this new lingo, for you FFVII players, will make sense as you begin to play and work with the tutorials incorporated in the game.)
The best part of this game is easily the ending movie. I won't give it away, but when you beat it, keep in mind: DO NOT SHUT OFF THE PSX UNTIL IT SAYS "THE END"! trust me. :)
