My Dell, my lifeFeb 04 '00 Write an essay on this topic. My Dimensions XPS PII 333, is my lifeline........ I have had this machine for two years now. I am not certain that this review will help with current models, but Dell's general attributes are worth checking. My interest in Dell came about because my brother had had a Gateway and had problems. I had a Hewlitt Packard and really loved it, but it was a 486 and I needed to upgrade. My brother checked consumer reports and all the magazines and decided on a Dell. His was a P233. On a visit to his home, I used it and fell in love. I searched the net when I got home and kept configuring and configuring until I came up with my system. I was able to order exactly what I wanted. My processor was the fastest at the point and I also went the high end on my sound card and graphics. I also went for the two DIM for my RAM. I got a mid range monitor -- 17 inch -- and the speakers are Altec 295's. I get awesome sound with this!! The soundcard is an AWE. There is also a built in Zip - which I have used these past two years without one problem. The one thing I am not crazy about is that my 8 GIG HD has been compartmentalized into 4 drives. This drives me crazy when I forget where I have put something. Since I had had some questions, rather than ordering on-line, I called and talked to a live person without too much trouble getting to him. The sales rep was very, very helpful in helping me select what would best meet my needs. For me, hearing someone tell me I made good choices helped a lot. After my order was placed, I enjoyed tracking it at Dell's website from order to production to delivery. I had it within two weeks. I really feel that was not long to wait at all. Living in a very rural area, it was the best way for me to go. |
