| kkj1961's Full Review: Dell Dimension XPS B800 |
I have to admit it, the main reason to upgrade from my old Dell XPS-R450 Pentium II machine to my new Dell XPS B800 was to run the latest, greatest PC games. It seems that computer games are always the first applications to push the processor and graphical limits of a machine.
I have now owned 2 Dell machines and have been happy with both purchases. They are not the sexiest machines available, but are stocked full of high quality components and are usually among the highest performing machines in their class. Dell's tech support is also highly respected in the industry.
The particular 800R that I purchased included the 64MB Geforce 256 video card. Although this card has since been overshadowed by newer video cards, it is still more than powerful enough to handle anything I throw at it.
The other components included a DVD-ROM drive, 56K modem, NIC card, Soundblaster Live audio card, and 40 GB hard drive. This machine makes a great multimedia "appliance" for playing games, MP3 files, or just crunching numbers in Quicken 2000. The sofware bundle included Microsoft Office 2000 SBE and Quicken 2000.
It's hard to say whether the RDRAM are worth the extra $$$, but I know that I have been more than satisfied with the performance.
Highly recommended.
