When I bought the 1693, I felt great, I wanted something near the top of the line & I paid a good price. But I am finding it takes for-ever to boot up, then it tells me that my anti-virus checking program is 6 months old but it does not tell me how to download a later version or where to go for it.
THE KEYBOARD, some times I can bang away on given keys and they will not register on the screen -- I will have to go back and insert the letters that are missing. (And for Microsoft -- why doesn't OutLook Express have a spell check???)
Using the DOS prompt is not as helpful as it could be. You can get to the prompt all right but there they could have a better presentation of the files available within DOS & they don't!
The speakers are tinny!
LASTLY, the modem is supposed to be 56k but the fastest it ever works is 37k and yet downstairs on the same phone line my IBM computer has also a 56k modem and it works regularly at 44k!!!!
Has Compaq used an inferior modem? or what?
