| M.Robinson's Full Review: KIH Online (KY) |
I've been with my ISP for over four years and things just seem to be getting worse! At first, everything seemed great. There were a few subscribers, all of which had unlimited access for $20 per month. I could dial up at any time and get a connection. (Yes....even in the evening during prime time!) Well, this lasted about one year until the 'internet-craze' hit our small town in Kentucky. People began subscribing and my ISP kept packing them into the same pre-existing modem bank. Needless to say, things started happening.
At this time, and for the first time, we had to make multiple calls to our ISP just to get a connection. When we contacted the KIH helpdesk, the technicians always attempted to convince us that 'there's something wrong with YOUR computer'. So, we had to go through their typical maze....setup the DNS servers....check/uncheck TCP/IP compression or header settings....add modem prefix codes to the configuration page. After sweating through this needless marathon, they would end up telling us that '..we may have a problem with one of our servers..'. (Ya think!)
Since there was no other ISP in town, we had no choice. We paid our $20 fee month-after-month, just hoping that someday Mr. KIH CEO would spend it on another server or modem bank. Well, this didn't happen until some other ISPs began to populate the landscape. (YES, AOL was a big influence.) At this time, our service was magically restored to normal! So, I decided to be a 'happy camper' and stayed on with KIH. After all, I didn't want to be Another Online Loser.
Life was great! I could connect at 45k, read my mail, browse the web, and enjoy life. BE FOREWARNED....Nothing Last Forever!! Well, last Fall, a new charge showed up on my bill....an extra $20 charge. When I phoned KIH to find out why this charge appeared, they explained 'oh, you didn't pay for service back in JULY'. Honestly, has anyone out there skipped a bill with their ISP and stayed connected? I don't think so. So, being a typical American, I ignored it.
A couple of months went by and whola...KIH now has an online billing summary. (you think maybe they were entering data for the online billing a few months before and screwed up? Yeah, me too!) As magical as it may seem, the $20 charge was removed from my bill during the month of January. But, as luck would have it, a new $20 charge just happen to show up on the February bill.
Therefore fellow Kentuckians, my advice to you is to chose an ISP you can trust! At least choose one who will stay connected while writing your epinions review (I was just disconnected.)
