How To Choose The Right Monitor For Yourself
Oct 01 '00
When you go to purchase a new computer monitor or a replacement monitor you'll find there are many different brands to choose from. Plus you'll notice the differences in prices between different makers & sizes as well.
I highly recommend that anyone buying a new computer monitor or if your replacing a computer monitor to go with a 17 inch computer monitor. Now a days a 17 inch computer monitor is only slightly more than buying a 15 inch monitor. And you'll notice the difference with the 17 inch monitor making it easier on your eyes as well as you being able to see more on web pages. On average you'll get any where for 1 1/2 to 2 more inches of viewable space on a 17 inch monitor than you would on a 15 inch monitor. I know that may not sound like a big difference, but when you use your computer a lot you'll notice the difference. The difference in power consumption between a 15 inch monitor & a 17 inch monitor is not very noticeable either. So, spring for the extra cost & try & get a 17 inch monitor.
As far as name brands are concerned, mostly all monitors are made the same. The major differences is how long the manufacture gives you for a warranty. Some manufactures are so sure about their computer monitors they will even give an in home warranty. So, if something goes wrong they'll send you a new computer monitor & then have you ship the other one to them. This way you have no down time with your computer. Just don't think a warranty like that means the monitor is any better than a cheaper brand. Sometimes it is & other times it isn't! The main thing to look for is a warranty of at least 2 to 3 years. Some computer monitors only have 1 year & I would tend to stay clear of those monitors because of the shorter warranty period. If you buy a store brand or off brand monitor compared to a name brand the major difference is the price. Some people like buying high end name brands while other people save some money & go with off brand less known name brand monitors. Just look for a good warranty on a computer monitor that your looking forward to purchase is my suggestion.
When buying a monitor make sure to look at the dot pitch & how much of the screen can be viewable. Some 17 inch monitors only show 15.5 inches viewable while other can go up to 16.5 inches viewable on the computer screen. Also when looking at computer monitors look for a computer monitor with the lowest possible dot pitch. Also look at the refresh rates the monitor can be set too. The refresh rates are important especially if you get a headache while sitting at your computer in front of your monitor a lot. The lower the refresh rate the more you may experience headaches from the screen not refreshing itself enough. The higher the refresh that you can get & set depending on your video card the better for you & for your eyes & will less likely to cause to get a headache if you spend long amounts of time in front of your computer
