| 2bad's Full Review: Leadtek WinFast GeForce 256 |
This card is really sweet. I purchased it back in August because, at the time, it was the most bang for the buck video card out there. Unfortunately, I'm currently kicking myself for not waiting to pick up geforce2, but I'm not writing about that.
This card was the first on the market, and still holds its own in the rank of first geforce cards on the market. I was using at Viper 550 w/TNT chipset, which only got me around 30 fps in quake 3, and I wasy dying to have something faster, so I picked up this card. With my overclocked 300a celery running at 450 with 192MB of RAM, I've got quake 3 running between 60-70 fps at the same settings. Quit laughing. I know I'm running old stuff, but I don't have that much cash to throw around.
Anyway, the leatek 256 card has been great, and it is still a good card to own, but not one to actually buy, now with the geforce2 mx cards weighing in at $85 or less.
One thing I hated about owning this card was the support I received from Leadtek(initially). The website was crummy and had horrible download times, although the driver was available. That was a few months ago and Leadtek has upgraded the website, gave it a cleaner look and faster access to updated drivers. Leadtek is a great company, making great cards and I will probably continue to own cards from Leadtek.
I can't even find this card available, only the DDR version, which is slightly better anyway. Don't buy it because there are better cards available, but not to say that this is a bad card. In fact, I will continue to use it for a long time to come.
