| segaskate's Full Review: Iomega Zip 250 External SCSI Drive |
I purchased this product for a multitude of reasons. It was made by Iomega, which has proven itself with the original Zip 100 drives. Second, it was external, so if I wanted to load my files on someone else's computer who doesn't have a Zip drive, I could plug it in and load it right away (with special software that comes with the drive). And third, with 250 meg capacity, this was the way to go over standard 1.44 meg floppies or expensive (around 400 dollars) external CD-RW drives.
Anyone who uses a PC can benefit from this product. It is external, so it can be moved from PC to PC, and the disks can store whole programs on them without taking up precious hard drive space. And the best part is that the Zip 250 drive is backwards-compatible with your old Zip 100 disks, meaning you (or anyone else) who wanted to load files off of their Zip 100's can do so. The only drawback to this is that performance is slowed a bit with the 100 meg disks.
I chose this product over the competition for one reason: value. It is much cheaper than an external CD-RW drive, and the data isn't stored on a strange format (how many people do you know that have Orb drives? I thought so). Plus, Zip disks are sold at any computer chain or online store. The disks are more expensive than re-writable CD's, but with an external drive you can take them anywhere.
And with the Iomegaware CD that comes with the drive, you will be set up and ready to go in (yes!) five minutes or less.
