| tompee's Full Review: Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion 9790C (P1338A#ABA) PC ... |
I just purchased the HP Pavilion 9790C, which I simply just call the HP 1G for simplicity reasons. Prior to my purchase of the HP 1G, I had a Intel Celeron (never buy celeron) 400 MHZ with 10 GB of hard drive space, Diamond Stealth Viper V770 video card, Sound Blaster Wave Gold Pro 128 bit sound card, 128 MG of PC1000 RAM and cd with burner. At 400 MHZ, running Windows 98 was no problem. Boot up time was a matter of 10 seconds which is not very long to wait at all. After finally deciding to throw out $2600 for a new computer, I wanted to buy a solid computer that would not give me any problems which is why I bought HP, a company instilled with quality values. I have used the computer for a matter of weeks and I am not dissappointed at all.
Good
Boot up time has been cut in half now, the wait is only a matter of 5 seconds but this will vary depending on the number of icons you have in your startup task bar, or whether you run a virus check on boot up. The keyboard is very handy use with its internet short cuts and loading options, something I never had before. The computer comes loaded with a lot of software such as its Music Tool Writer, allowing me to make my own cds and grab songs of the internet easily.
Along the lines of loading various programs, the time is greatly reduced for running applications. I rarely use programs like autocad or adobe photoshop so I cant say how affects those big programs but for programs like Microsoft Word, the wait is basically gone. For games like Final Fantasy or Starcraft, again the time for loading is gone and the games running much more smoothly.
The computer also comes with an astounding 60 GB of memory which for any of those compute adept people, you will find a very hard time filling up unless you collect every single mp3 known to mankind or every single video you can find.
Bad
There really are no bad qualities of the HP 1G except that when trying to scandisk or defragment the hard drive, it takes forever. Also, when buyin a pre-built HP, its hard to upgrade you video card, or sound card.
Opinion
For the average user, I think the HP 1G is way to much of a computer. You wont really need this fast of a computer or that big of a hard drive now. Maybe later you will depending on software. I just bought this computer becuase I wanted a 1GMHZ computer thats all.
