I'm fairly computer literate, but not what anyone would consider an expert. I'd say I'm the average user - so when my brother started talking to me about MP3's and this website called Napster that he uses to download songs from, I became intrigued. I had never even heard of an MP3 before, but free music sounded great to me.
Downloading the program was simple and easy. Everything was walked through for me step-by-step. All I had to do was click "next" and "ok". That part was easy enough. But could I even begin to work this thing? The answer, quite simply, was an amazing YES!!!!!
Napster is set up to be user friendly. There are tabs at the top of the screen, and all you have to do is click on the one you need. Probably the most used tab on my computer is the "Search" tab. If you know the name of the artist or the song name that you want, all you have to do is perform a search, and all the results will appear in minutes. When you find a song you want on the search list, just double click on it, and it begins to transfer to your computer. It's that easy!!!! Under the "transfer" tab, you can check the status of all the songs you are currently transferring. This is helpful in checking to see if a song has finished downloading or if there was an error (which sometimes does happen). The "library" tab keeps track of all the songs you have gotten. You can even play the songs directly from Napster by clicking on them in this tab. There's even a "chat" feature on Napster which allows you to speak to other members and even search their libraries to find what you need. I have not personally done that, though, because the search option has worked so well for me.
It does take time to download songs from Napster, depending on your computer, but it is worth it! I have gotten songs that haven't even been released on CD. To think of all the years I had spent tons of money on CD's when I only really loved a few songs on each. Now I can custom make my own CD's with my CD writer. I'll never have to buy another CD again!!!! It took me five minutes to learn how to use Napster, and now I've become an addict!!!
There is a pending appeal in court over the legality of Napster. Originally an order was put out to shut it down. Because it is still in the appeal status, the site is allowed to remain operational. This site is the best MP3 site out there, and if they choose to shut it down, I myself will be one lost music lover!!!!!
