Unlike many people think, there is little spam on hotmail. I have been using it for almost a year now as the address of my clan, and because I didn't submit it to say, a linkshare program, I haven't received much spam at all. I believe then, that hotmail does not sell your address to everyone with a nickel and a product.

Hotmail itself is the best free program out there and has the best customization you can get.The 5 most used options are laid out right on top of your screen, and are easy to find. Even on themail.com, which I also recommend (I wrote a review) it is hard to find the new mail link or the inbox link. Hotmail is also very fast. I used it to test the form on my clan page, it would arrive right away in the mailbox so I could finish my testing faster.

Like other free mail programs, hotmail has banners, but they are standard size and don't get in the way too much. They don't push you to click ads or anything, and you can if they interest you. They have links on the side where you can sign up for newsgroups and other services.

The bulk mail filtering is very good, and manages to get most spam I do get, and that folder is emptied once a month. There are only a few options there but they encompass a lot.

Hotmail has a few other features nothing can compare to. Their chat client is actually decent (As Microsoft products go ;-) and you can carry on a good chat in that section. They allow different templates to send backgrounds in your mail and have a very good attachment system.

Hotmail has other very good services, a photo album and a classifieds system. The classifieds get moderate traffic too, so if you are into that, you will enjoy it.

All in all hotmail is the best free email service out there, and as long as you don't publicize your email.
