Don't pay for Internet or email!

Written: May 15 '00
Pros:Free, really, no kidding
Cons:Lots of unknowns, slight spammage

YES! Never will I pay for dial up service again!!! But seriously, this service supports pop email accounts. Just what you need to keep Microsoft Outlook going. It makes an easy transition from a pay service like AT&T or Sprint and the like. What is the price for this free service? Just a little tag on your email (3 lines at the end advertising NetZero)

The browser spam bar is not too annoying. It takes up about 1/5th of the screen and can be moved around. If you have two monitors it doesn't hurt at all. Hopefully the spam bar will be usefull, they seem to be making an effort for it to be more than just a moving billboard.

What about the connection? It always answers for me. I connect at 44,000 bps (same for many of the services I have tried). Sometimes I wonder if they all rent dial up from the same company here in town?!?

Limitations: you have to be active or you will be disconnected, this could cause trouble downloading files. Reliability? Who knows? It's a new company with a lot of money but then AOL started out pretty good then went south when volume increased. I'm looking at NetZero like a condo - not my dream home but a great place for someone who can be flexible.
