I bought the USB version of this external CD-RW drive so I could take it on the road with me, and it has lived up to its expectations.
Although a 4-speed recorder is not fast by todays standards, I can still burn a full-length CD in just over 15 minutes, which is about the same amount of time I need to shower, shave, and get dressed. So I can start a CD burning and have a new CD when I leave for work in the morning.
The hookup and installation went fairly smoothly, but one annoying thing that I can't seem to get past is that the CD Recorder has a power button that must be turned off before you reboot. If you try to reboot while the the CD drive is on, the drive letter will not will not appear. You can just turnn it off and back on again and usually it will recognize it then, but sometimes you have to unplug the USB cable too.
Other than that I have no complaints. The recorder burns neat CDs and I have had very few that have not worked because of buffer underrun errors and such. The bundled software was the standard Adaptec stuff, but adequate for most purposes. (It also came with 1 blank CD-R and one CD-RW)
It is quiet and very unobtrusive. Fits in nicely right under my zip drive (that rarely gets used anymore). All in all this is a good system, but I can't wait until they start bumping up the speed on externals.
