Just Bought it and it's great so far

  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
  • Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:Easy to get going with almost everything all set for you. Great customer service. Fast and economical system.
Cons:I think I might already have a slight problem with the keyboard. I'm still verifying that one.

I just bought this system. Here are my specs:

Pentium III 600 Mhz
10 gig Hard drive
8X DVDRom
128 Meg RAM (One Dimm so I can upgrade at a later date)
XGA 14.1" TFT Monitor
Windows Me
3.5" Floppy Drive
MS Office 2K Small Business w/ MS Encarta
Norton AV 2000
53WHr Lithion Ion Battery with Express Charge (4 hour lifetime)
Delux Nylon Case (hey, got to have a case)
3 years parts and labor
Port Replicator
Free Lexmark Printer (special offer)

Total cost: $2999.90

I received this machine almost before it shipped (according to their site updates on your order). The order process was smooth thanks to Destiny Hayes, my customer representative. When I decided against the financing because the 18.99% interest rate was more than the 4.9% I get on my credit card, she was quite willing to help me put the order. She misunderstood part of my order, and she was willing to fix it and keep me updated via email.

The machine itself is great (I got it in blue just to be different). It's fast, streamlined. I could do without the Windows Me OS, but I need one machine with Winblows for when I go back for my MBA in the spring so I can do some Word Processing.

I was highly disappointed that the Small Business Edition of Office 2K didn't come with Powerpoint. I mean, what business DOESN'T use Powerpoint for presentations? That kind of ticked me off, but that's more a Microsoft (sucks) problem than Dell's.

No problems with the mouse pointers because I turned off the tapping feature. I tend to get right into my system and customize it to what I want (darnit). I still have a little setup left to do, but nothing major.

I haven't gotten the port replicator set up at home yet (I will get to it as soon as I clean off my desk, really!), but the rest of the system is great. I plugged in my ethernet card from my older laptop and went right onto DSL. No problems (except for Mindspring's unwillingness to support Windows Me).

I did my research before plunging into this buy, and Dell is definitely the best bang for the buck. Their customer service is also beyond compare.
